The Great Wall

The Wild Wall

Climbing the Great Wall was a life highlight for Dixie and I. We got lucky and were able to climb a portion of the wall that is normally closed to visitors. It was so beautiful and serene. For the last hour, we were the only ones on the Wall in either direction. It was great to be on a section that is still the original Wall and not redone as most of the other sections around Beijing are.

Hi Dixie and Eric; I was just commenting to David about you guys, and wondering how you were. He said, email them..and you were on my "to do" list! How neat to see your dear faces..in China no less! I loved reading about your adventures, and seeing your pictures. This experience I am sure is difficult at times..but at the same time what an exciting opportunity. I think of you often..and it's just good to hear of your blog so I can check in on you. Seth also has a blog on blogspot; Here are the addresses of his blogs..so you can catch up on him.

You will see a young lady in some of the blogs who has become a very special part of his life :) God is good, but I'll not tell anymore of the story; you can read it on his blog and see pics. You can see us in his smugmug gallery under Lake Chelan pics; and our new granddaughter.

David is very busy in Brewster, and enjoying it. I am involved more and more with hospice; and am about to begin an ESL program similar to literacy volunteers here in town. I've got another gal interested in helping me who is also a teacher.

We didn't do our trek on the PCT this year as I have had gallbladder problems. I am sitting here with an icepack on my belly; it came out the 20th; and I'm doing fine. We were very sad we couldn't hike, however we look forward to next year and packing in the miles. Plan is to get all of Washington done (508 miles) before we are 65. We are making progress..but missing this year sets us back.

Enjoy each day...it was wonderful hearing from you!

Our love
Jan and Dave

Sup Guys,

Were sitting in a little Internet Cafe here in Cambodia right now. Weather has been a little overcast but overall quite nice...especially since it's rainy season. Looks like you enjoyed China! Your lucky to have the Wall to yourself;-) Anyway, off to Hong Kong tomorrow and maybe Macau for the day. On Oct 1, Macau had a world fireworks competition.... Ahhh, I would have loved to be there for that. Oh well, you can't be everywhere. Miss you guys and we'll see you in a week or so.

PS. We'll get Kenya Tickets in Hong Kong

Eric and Dixie,

So glad you could have such a wonderful time together at the Great Wall. ;) We're just a little jealous. Hopefully we'll get a trip in together sometime in the next year or two.
