The Ngorongoro Crater was one of our favorite places of the whole trip. The scenery is spectacular and wildlife prolific in a small area. As we entered the park, we came on a lion kill that had a group of buffalo defending there own. Further on we came upon the sluggish full lions with a couple of babies lounging on their mom. This was also the place where we saw rhino(from a distance) on this trip. We had a full crater view from our full wall window in our room.

We arrived in Arusha with no safari scheduled. We srambled and were fortunate/blessed enough to hook up with a great driver and tour company. We spent the first day in Arusha national park and then a day at Lake Manyara. We saw our first lion there. Awesome. Watching the storms break over the savannah reminded us of storms in the midwest. Let it roll.

Our last day in Zanzibar, we did a spice tour, jazanni forest tour, and spent the night in Stone Town. It was amazing how close we were able to get to the monkeys. The spice tour was just cruising along through little villages picking different plants to check out. It was neat seeing the spices that drove the trade of long ago. The day ended with a great sunset on the water.

Zanzibar was a great choice for a week of fun since our conference had been canceled. We relaxed, walked on the beach, played games, read, and did some great diving. The stars were amazing from there. We saw lots of fish, turtles, and large white tip sharks. Also the largest lobster in the world(not pictured). It was nice to wake up to the sound of the waves, oh and the 4:30am prayer call everyday.

Cairo was a favorite city of mine. Eating the falafel, fell and Kosheri at little side walk restaurants was special. The pyramids and sphinx were a dream come true. We took a camel for a long ride from the plast pyramid to the sphinx. Chad and Sho opted for horses, while Ken and Crystal cameled like us. Dixie did great climbing down into the heart of the pyramid despite her claustrophobia. We also managed a couple of arm to arm pyramids in front of the pyramids. Great memories.
